"Some are tattered
Some are torn
Some are new
Some are worn
But no matter their look or where the came
The calm they provide is all the same"
This is my version of a security blanket named after my granddaughter Saydie's beloved security blanket,
Miney, the security blanket of a sixty-two years old is a mixed media collage on paper, 54 inches x 72
The Miney notebook is a detail study of the security blanket. The sixty two pieces are mixed media
collages 11 inches x 17 inches.
Free Fall is the continuation of my process working in a series. Taking an image or concept as an idea
and making it as many ways possible until I cannot make it anymore.
These mixed media pieces are painted, printed, collaged, drawn, and bleached photographs based on a
personal experience of free falling and being surrounded by a beautiful magical peaceful light.
The Free Fall Series is 1000 pieces 11in. x14in.
These are from a series of 40 prints and 20 silhouette paintings, The painting were done on vintage wall paper samples and the prints on vellum and monoprinted newsprint. The mono printed newsprint was made by my 21/2 year old granddaughter when we have studio time together, the image I added on later.
These drawings and paintings are a part of a series started after seeing the beautiful terra cotta votive people and the Giotto frescos in Italy. The votive sculptures were made and left at the grave to invite the gods to inhabit the sculptures to protect from evil. Swaddling is a form of protection, and safe space for an infant.
This work, the stepford
wives, is the next step for a good girl. After
twelve years of Catholic School we were taught
not only to be a good girl but to grow up
to be the perfect wife and mother by emulating
the perfect woman, Mary the Mother of God.
